More about Fattoria Castello di Volpaia Winery:
The first documents that mention Volpaia date back to 1172, where today wines are produced using organic farming. Already included among the three best wines in the world by Wine Spectator Volpaia is known all over the world for the uniqueness of its cellars hidden in the walls of the ancient fortified village. Volpaia has villas, apartments and rooms for rent, organizes cooking schools and tastings.
“The Volpaia area is a unique terroir in the Chianti Classico area.
The vineyards around 45 hectares are over 400 m. above sea level. on predominantly sandstone soils rich in skeleton suitable for the production of elegant and long-lived reds, harmonious and aristocratic wines that manage to maintain the fruity aromas of the best Sangiovese for a long time.
Typical wines of the so-called “Alto Chianti” and easily recognizable for the composite elegance of their bouquet referable not only to the microclimate of the area, but also to the very particular clonal selection carried out by the farm which led to the rediscovery and re-grafting of ancient autochthonous Sangiovese strains. This long process has led to the creation of 3 Crus: Coltassala, Il Puro and Balifico, each with its own distinctive features.”
