In a rare New-York-to-Piedmont connection, Michelle Erland interviews Matteo Ascheri, and gets up close and personal with a series of entertaining questions about his family, hobbies, and interests. They also discuss the importance of family and the wine industry in this period of lockdown.

Matteo Ascheri has been the president of the Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani Protection Consortium since 2018. This prestigious Piedmontese Consortium, composed of over 500 member companies, controls more than 10,000 hectares of vineyards of different denominations. Matteo was previously vice president of the same consortium, president of the Wine Research Center of Piedmont "Tenuta Cannona," and president of the board of directors of the Albese Wine Producers Union which promotes the traditional "Albeisa" bottle, dedicated to local wines. He owns the historic Ascheri Cellars of Bra. Founded in 1880, the winery is complete with a traditional Piedmontese tavern and an elegant hotel connected to the cellar.

Michelle Erland is an Account Executive with Colangelo & Partners Public Relations in New York City and an Italian Wine Ambassador through the Vinitaly International Academy in Verona. From a hospitality background, her passion led her to wine and she completed an intensive sommelier program at the International Culinary Center (French Culinary Institute). In 2015, Michelle passed the Court of Master Certified Sommelier Exam. Throughout her wine studies, Italian wine always stood out as something she wanted to pursue. Michelle eventually joined Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina as the Beverage Director and General Manager. This opportunity allowed her to follow her passion as she relocated to Verona, Italy. Michelle has had the fortune to teach pasta and wine classes in both Italy and London. The pursuit of education has always been a driving force in Michelle’s hunger for all things wine, food and hospitality
